As a local Cantabrian and an accomplished musician, Rob Grover is now establishing himself as an emerging voice among the Christchurch music scene. Since his arrival in Christchurch in 2006 to study music, Rob has surrounded himself with many of the local talents, playing an extensive range of genres to a wide variety of audiences. Seven years later these same friends joined forces to help Rob create his long awaited debut album, Take Back Your Innocence, which recorded at Orange studio and released in February 2013.
The first songs on this album were born during a year-long backpacking trip around South America in 2010/11. The lyrics convey messages of self-reflection and honesty with a strong underlying theme of optimism. Some tracks such as Let Me Be, Don’t Know (What We’d Find), and Wanna Let It Free, were written on the road; often in the confined space of a budget hotel with nothing more than a beaten up classical guitar, and a budget three piece home recording set up.
Rob now has a fresh repertoire, which is largely influenced by his original blues/soul influences, drawing inspiration from artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Keb Mo, Bill Whithers, and Derek Trucks. He is aiming to be back in the studio next year to begin work on his follow-up album.
